Oak Bay Wins Inaugural SIYCL Tournament

Saanich, BC -- The Oak Bay Islanders completed their miraculous rookie season by winning the first SIYCL finals tournament. The Islanders went undefeated in round-robin play, finishing three points clear of second place Metchosin Stingers. They also posted an impressive net run rate of 7.88 and a run differential of +48. Individual tournament honours went to Andy (OB) as top batsman, with 3.43 runs per over. Bowling hardware went to Jacob (Metchosin Gekkos) for Best Economy at only 1.17 runs allowed per over; Sophie (Stingers) and Kurt (OB) each had 5 wickets for tops in that category; While Calvin (Saan) allowed the fewest runs overall.

Coach Stuart Cairns was quick to credit his team's work ethic. "They came to every practice ready to work. They had a lot of fun, and really listened to the coaching staff, and now they are champions. It couldn't have ended any better. I'm so very proud of them."

The Islanders begin defense of their title in June, with the next finals tournament scheduled for 25 Aug 2019. Thanks also to Oak Bay coaches Mark Lise, Ross Sands, and Robert White.
